"I can use a convertible mustang engine to replace a roof for an old impala?
I have a 1968 Impala convertible the engine does not work. A friend told me that I could use any other engine of the top … suggested using one of a mustang, as they are abundant and less expensive than the original units. It is a convertible top motor of the same (except dimensions) as any engine hood?
What nobody here has thought or said that they simply is not the engine. You have a motor that pumps the hydraulic fluid, most of the time regular ATF fluid and you have two (2) hydraulic cylinders that raise and lower the top. If you do not hear the engine, then it is likely to take. If you hear it, it may not be necessary to pump the pressure or the cylinders can be shot and needs replacing. You need to know it is. An engine runs about $ 249, and a pair of cylinders around $ 269. Some of the Chevy was a superior scissor, which was like a cat Screw up and down and had a hydraulic pump motor with cyliners. Also, the Impala is a car bigger and heavier lid so that the pressure on it if you do not have a pump may be higher than the Mustang with a light cover and a pump without much pressure.
